Great weekend

I'm more proud of Birmingham, Alabama than I ever have been. Not only did Birmingham land a Davis Cup tie, but the crowds were passionate, Davis Cup-like crowds! What a moment when the victorious U.S. team carried the flag around a rocking BJCC! U-S-A, U-S-A! I'm still chanting in my head.

I think my old pal Philip has done a great job with the alma-mater. Wins in four out of five--a stretch I'll never forget.

The weather was great in Birmingham. I hope I can remember this past weekend if I live to be eighty-five years old.

Random Thoughts

I've just learned that the American Idol Wildcard Round will be completely controlled by the judges. Each judge will pick two contestants from the Final 36 and one more contestant may be selected to make it 8 or 9 people battling for three spots in the Final 12. The wildcard round will air next Thursday. The judges will pick those three during the episode.

My favorite from Group 2 was Megan. I like her charisma. I also enjoyed the wild performance from "Norman Gentle" that Simon predictably hated.

My buddy's team (our alma-mater) won last night, and that is very special.

The new 90210 has not yet captured my imagination. I thought that I would love it, but something is missing for me. It reminds me that I don't know why I've never fallen in love with One Tree Hill.

I just can't understand the rationale for the requirement of a super-majority (60 votes) to move a bill through the Senate without a filibuster.

Why do I sometimes catch myself watching Tool Academy? I totally believe it's cruel and unusual punishment for the guys.

Another try at a first post

I've been reading the sports page since I was 5-years old. So when I began to write my very first post on my blog, sports just spilled out of me. Well, I want to go in a different direction. So here is another try.

Forget who wins or loses a ball game. I'm worried about my good friend who has recently been named the head basketball coach at our alma-mater. I'm worried about his family. Percentages are that they are about to be forced to move to another job because that just happens to be the dynamic of the situation. Taking three lovely kids to a new home will be a jolt.

On to more trivial things, I'm curious about Tatiana's chances of being given a wildcard into the Final 12 of American Idol.

Well, that's my second try at a first post. Short and hopefully sweet.
